Meet Marina Kelly
"Ever since I can remember, I have wanted to attend Cretin-Derham Hall." And so it was that Marina Kelly entered CDH in 2008 from Capitol Hill Magnet School in St. Paul, where she attended grade school.
Marina is a former member of the girls swim and dive team and the Alpine ski team and serves as a member of People Finding People, a highly trained peer mentoring group that focuses on helping ninth- and 10th-graders make the transition to high school a bit easier.
"It's a great opportunity for ninth-graders and sophomores to get to know upperclassmen and talk to them about what they may be struggling with, or just to talk," Marina says.
Although Marina's favorite subject is Spanish, it was her experience in chemistry that propelled science teacher Joyce Nordby into one of the top spots on Marina's "favorite teacher" list.
"In my junior year, I really struggled with chemistry," Marina says. "Ms. Nordby worked with me every step of the way. She is a great teacher and very dedicated!"
Marina's immediate plans include going to a four-year college and majoring in Spanish. Long-term, her goal is to become a Foreign Service Officer.
Marina says if she were able to communicate personally with all CDH donors, she would thank them for their generosity.
"I would tell them that their gifts are extremely appreciated, that the kindness they have extended to me and others is making our dreams come true and giving my generation extraordinary opportunities."
