Couple’s Generosity Benefits CDH Community
Steve Karel has been a supporter of Cretin-Derham Hall from the beginning. As a graduate from and board member for Cretin High School, Steve played an important part in the school’s merger with Derham Hall in the late ’80s.
“Students have greater opportunity for academic achievement and extracurricular opportunity for personal growth and success,” he says of the merged schools.
Steve and his wife Taffy’s support of the school didn’t stop after his time on the CDH board ended in 1991. Their four children graduated from Cretin-Derham Hall, and the couple continues to donate annually to benefit financial aid, allowing other students the chance to receive an education at the school.
“Paying for a Catholic school education is not easy…and the generosity of others before us allowed us to send our children to Catholic schools. Now it’s our turn to pay it forward,” Steve says.
Steve and Taffy, who were recently recognized with the Eugene and Mary Frey Community Award, see their annual giving as an investment in the future of their community.
“We support the school because of its positive impact on our community and its success in helping to make students better people,” he says.
