Family Shows Appreciation for CDH Education
A Catholic education is not something that the Dinh family takes for granted. Hung and Van Dinh fled Vietnam to escape religious persecution during the war. Both were raised Catholic and attended Catholic schools. So when they settled in Minnesota, they sought out a well-rounded education for their daughters. The school needed to be rigorous while also teaching their children about humanity.
The Dinhs chose Cretin-Derham Hall because they felt strongly that their daughters have a wide range of opportunities to learn and grow as productive citizens. A software engineer, Hung says his children had a wonderful experience.
"They have a strong foundation in math and science, and at the same time, they learned to understand the role of human beings in society," he says. "I really appreciate CDH for that."
Hung adds that his children benefited from great teachers who set the stage for his daughters' careers. Christina '11 is in her fourth year of a chemical engineering doctoral program at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Tracy '13 is in her first year of medical school at the University of Chicago.
The family gives to CDH's annual fund because they are committed to the work the school does to shape lives. Hung values the fact that CDH scholarships offer students from all backgrounds a chance to learn.
"We are happy we can help maintain and support the school, which provides a good level of education to people throughout Minnesota," he says.
