Meet Allias Porter
Allias Porter considered several high schools before deciding on Cretin-Derham Hall. His mother encouraged him to attend CDH, as did the principal of his grade school. And when he graduated in May 2011, Allias knew he had made the right choice.
At CDH, Allias found a welcoming community that included religion teacher, Doug Meeker. "Mr. Meeker was beyond being a teacher," Allias says. "He was a mentor and a friend-very easy to connect with, and he helped me with issues both in and out of school."
Allias and his mom, Stephani, are members of St. Peter Claver in St. Paul. "Faith is a big part of my life," Allias says, noting that religion classes at CDH were among his favorites. "Religion classes helped clear my mind and experience new things."
Allias also took advantage of many co-curricular opportunities available to him, including JROTC, basketball, wrestling, bowling and Ultimate Frisbee.
He is now attending Century College in White Bear Lake, Minn. In the short term, he would like to be a prosthetic technician, and one day, he would like to have a career as a certified prosthetic practitioner.
"Many donors made it possible for me to attend Cretin-Derham Hall," Allias says. "I want them to know how grateful I am and how their support helps a lot of kids like me go to a great school like CDH. I want them to know that their donations can be life-changing."
